PES Women

Is the women’s organisation of the Party of European Socialists (PES) working to promote and progress on gender equality and women’s rights inside and outside of the PES by giving a voice, tools and platforms for women, by putting forward specific women’s rights policies, through gender-mainstreaming and by ensuring equal representation and participation in the PES bodies, member parties and organisations.

Rainbow Rose

Is the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans* and intersex (LGBTI) Network of the Party of European Socialists (PES), containing more than 30 member organisations from 27 countries across Europe. Organisations affiliated to Rainbow Rose include political parties from within the PES family, the LGBTI networks of political parties and NGOs. We promote LGBTI equality and representation both within the Party of European Socialists and outside it. We work closely with activists and elected representatives at a local, national and European level from within the PES family to strengthen the commitment to LGBTI rights within our own sister parties and governments of which we are a part.

Why we use the gender star*

The asterisk/star after words like woman indicates that this is an open category and that all people who define themselves as women are addressed. By adding the asterisk/star to a noun we indicate it refers to cis-women and trans-women alike. 3 In languages like German, there are gender-specific designations for people that are formed grammatically (e.g. Politiker 'politician.male' and Politikerin 'politician.female'). An asterisk/star between the basic form and the grammatical ending (Politiker*in) indicates that not only women and men, but all genders and gender identities are addressed.
